Hair transplant is known to be the most expensive but also the most effective solution for pattern hair loss. It’s a procedure where your scalp’s receding area receives donor hair from the healthier parts of your scalp. On paper, it sounds simple enough, but you have to consider a few things and know what you’re getting into before you try it.
It Starts With a Good Clinic
The Philippines is a great place to start especially in Manila. Locals and tourists alike will find high-end and reputable medical clinics around town.
The perks of choosing a reputable clinic mean the risk of having a botched procedure is negated and you’ll have the best treatment options available. It’s suggested to look at Google maps to find the latest and relevant reviews for hair transplant clinics you’re looking to visit in Manila.
Before you schedule an appointment, you’d be wise to read up about what to expect in a hair transplant procedure. This will put you up to speed.
Screening
Let’s say you’ve already set an appointment with a doctor. The first part of your hair growth journey would be a checkup to see if you’re a good candidate for a hair transplant. Not everyone can undergo a hair transplant procedure so you’ll be a good candidate when:
- You have realistic expectations for recovery and understand the possibility of hair loss to continue.
- You’ve lost hair for more than 5 years and progressed to class 3 or above on the Norwood scale.
- Your balding pattern has stabilized.
- You’ve lost hair due to trauma, burns, or cosmetic procedures.
If you meet these conditions, you’ll be given further information about the procedure.
FUT or FUE
You have two options for hair transplantation and these are Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT aka Strip Surgery) or Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).
FUT is the common form of hair transplant wherein a strip of your scalp is taken and the donor follicles are harvested then transplanted onto the recipient area, while FUE extracts individual grafts from the donor area and is transplanted onto the recipient area.
The real differences show during the follicle extraction part. FUT requires an incision to harvest follicles, while FUE extricates follicles individually. FUE gathers good follicles of better quantity compared to FUT but it takes more time to finish.
You can expect a single session to last 4-8 hours so you’ll have to be patient.
Aftercare
Your scalp will appear to be tender after the surgery so bandages will be applied and you’ll be given pain medications, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and possibly minioxidil to aid in your recovery. You can expect hair to fall out 2 to 3 weeks after the surgery but you’ll see significant results within 6-9 months.
Ready for an Appointment?
Now that you have the information you need, feel free to schedule an appointment with the clinic you’ve chosen. It’s a guarantee you’ll have a satisfactory hair restoration in Manila’s finest hair clinics so don’t be shy to look around. You deserve a full hat of hair and you’ll find the right clinic for you here in the Philippines.
